“From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.” ~ Luke 12:48b
For the past several days, an insistent small voice has been telling me something: You were chosen for what you are going through.
I have thus far resisted the urge to tell the small voice to buzz off, but I can’t speak for tomorrow.
The truth is, I don’t really like the idea of being chosen for something like this. I’d much rather go through life and live the normal American dream – grow up, go to college, get married, have kids, get old, die peacefully in sleep. However, things have already been derailed from that plan, so I suppose I need to get with the program and accept that, for whatever reason, God had this picked out as part of my life’s path.
Looking in the Bible, you can see the pattern that being chosen by God for something often means a much harder journey than the average life provides. Much, much harder. But when God asks you to do something and you are obedient, there are rewards. I’m not sure what it is God is asking me to do – I wish I knew. But for the present, I know He is asking me to keep going forward in faith.
It may be clear what He is asking of me in my lifetime, but then again, it may not. That isn’t for me to know. But I do know that God has blessed me with a lot in my life – supportive family, a wonderful son, and loyal friends – and I must keep in mind that, as this verse says, much will be asked of me, because much has been given to me.
In your own life, you may look around and see just how much God has given to you. Be mindful that He has entrusted you with so much with the expectation that you will be a good steward of it. Use your gifts wisely.
